Josh Bandoch’s research focuses on making the American Dream a reality for more of our neighbors.
Below are research reports he has written to advance that goal.
Poverty Solutions.
There’s remarkable consensus on seven macro-solutions to povety. This report explores that common-ground consensus.
Housing Affordability
This report (written with Joe Tabor) explores how harmful regulations make housing unaffordable for families, and what needs to be done to combat our growing housing crisis.
Occupational Licensing.
My report (with Larry Han) shows how occupational licensing creates inequality and hurts the poor and minorities. We outline numerous solutions for Illinois to empower those most in need of opportunity.
Social Mobility.
Career-First Education.
My new report (with Justin Callais) examines why social mobility in Illinois is the lowest among all Midwestern states, and what policy changes to happen to restore opportunity to all Illinoisans so they can unleash their potential.
My report (with Lauren Zuar) advocates for a reorientation of our education system. We need to go Beyond Degrees. Our degree-first model is broken. We need a career-first model where students learn the skills they need for meaningful employment.
Inclusionary Zoning.
My forthcoming report (with LyLena Estabine examines the negative unintended of Chicago’s “inclusionary zoning” policies.
Benefit Cliffs.
My forthcoming report examines how social welfare programs contain structural disincentives to work, and how we can address them at the federal, state, and local level, starting in Illinois.
